i can't win

"severe weather"
that's what BBC news said.
i still think the British tend to overreact.
then again,
i don't know if i consider this
good or bad.

raining snow

3rd april : mail

surprise postcard from JinLu!
(all the way from Greece!)

seriously.
i meet the nicest people in Durham.

in this context,
"people"
refers to those that i came into contact with in school.

and strangely,
they are mostly asians.

sure.
the locals and europeans are mostly polite and friendly.
the other international students
just stick to those from their own country.

that leaves me,
the lonely singaporean.

but God has been so good to place
the sweetest and most sincere people in my life.

on the way home.
cold
alone

perfect for talking to God.

woke up to a snow-free day.

gramps was fit.
he climbed the slope faster than i did.
and at the end, i was panting.
but he wasn't.

practice practice practice!

library duty!
black beanie and plaits.
necessary to combat the raging winds.
(heck the fat face)

4th april : someone who makes you happy

fluffy clouds
bright night sky
low hanging moon

ought to stop wasting time.

have you spoken to God today?

boats and birds

so glad to have survived
FRM formative

spent an insane amount of time on this assignment.
now.

(Romain and Meiko have already completed their
dissertation proposals!)

i heart sequins!

accessories for the day

queue to enter the library.

guess what!
starting this week! the library will be open 24/7!
yes! it will not shut for an entire week!
how awesome is that!

fading fader

as arrogant as Meiko is,
i cannot deny that castle college is brilliant.

the new master invite Daniel Bell for a concert
and although i only heard the last bits of it while hiding in the balcony
i must say it was lovely.

mind you,
i am no fan of violins or strings for that matter.
neither am i saying his skills were perfect.
but the evening was delicately woven in a precise manner
that i know my memory would not forget.

standing in the balcony of castle's great hall.
(where people are studying)

we attempted to play settlers of catan with an extension
2 hours later. . .
we were only 3/4 through the rules.
(not that we were learning it furiously)

still.
i must proclaim that this is the best game ever!
and being "finance" students.
we colluded, monopolised, traded on futures and derivatives.

woke up feeling hungry.
yes.
my action plan has started.
i wouldn't say i am dieting.
(if i may say so)

i am just training my body to recognise and distinguish hunger.
sad that my body/brain has completely lost control of a primary function.

making a conscious effort to watch what i eat.
asking if i am truly hungry or just wanting to chew on something.

on a brighter note
(literally)

it was an exceptionally warm day!
that made me really happy.

for the first time in months.
i stepped out of the house without boots and coat!

to think about it.
this is the first time my feet has ever seen sunshine!
(why do i sound deprived)

tea
vennel's cafe
i love the decor
but whipping out my phone and taking pictures
would be somewhat equivalent to screaming "hail hitler"

i think i should stop "tea sessions"
a pot of tea for 2 quid.

when i have decent earl grey tea bags at home.
(no, not justified)

another positive thing
(always good to recall the good right?)

i went running!
yes,
mother would be so elated.
(she has been somewhat pleading me to exercise)

tested out my still hurting ankle
and i am glad to say that i can run.
perhaps on incredibly fast or long distances.

also,
i went running wearing only
my adidas tee and fbt shorts!
this was how warm it got!
13ºC according to forecasts
7ºC for real feel!

note :
the last time i ran
i wore my running gear with
leggings
fleece jacket
gloves

please forgive my excitement

now.
back to my books.
FMBF hasn't been too kind.

one day i slowly floated away

so i decided i should eat healthier food
less restrictive on my food budget

dinner at san marco

update on my foot :
day 5
looks as though i am suffering from elephantiasis

for the first time i didn't want to be with meiko and romain
it made meiko worried
romain had his own troubles to deal with

i tell myself happiness is a choice
so i smiled and tried to enjoy the night

now
after more than 12 hours of isolation
i do feel better

baked a strawberry cheesecake
window shop
overcame the urge to spend
(note : not splurge)
lion dance in durham market place
cashier with a nice necklace
coldplay
heaps of groceries

okay.
i still need to work on my seminars!

in the lift of durham main library

of coz i wouldn't mind

outfit for the day

but things never go according to plans
got summoned to work instead

at my precious seat
using only eye power

at least dinner was as planned

sandwich and green apple juice
pumpkin bread was a delightful surprise

i never had such joy in reading emails
the anticipation
the moment the word pops at you
i smile silly
praise God!
